Databricks

Objective

Databricks is an AI and Data company that provides an open-source platform and brings reliability to machine learning and other data science use cases.

They are looking for a visual system rebuilding to match their prospect in machine learning and develop a visual language that is scalable, approachable, and conveys the vision of connection, precision, and transformation.

We helped Databricks develop a new visual system, from typography to a new color system, illustrations, and graphic language. And work collaboratively to adopt the new design language, expanding them into the UI system and developing them into a well-organized and scalable component library. Assist the Databricks team in applying the new visual language to its responsive website from desktop to mobile.

Role

As the project's senior designer, I am responsible for exploring and developing the new visual system, key graphic language, and art directing for the main illustration style. Further assist the Databricks team in systemizing a consistent treatment for all the diagrams, charts, tables, and product feature demonstrations. And help systemize and organization for the UI and visual library for future scalability and expansion.

Using the existing logo and visual identity, we identified possible opportunities to refine the design system to be scalable and modular that speak to audiences.

We built a solid design foundation that centers on the relationships between parts and what they add up to as a whole. The design system encourages exploration and easily getting in and out of different pieces of information while also bringing a sense of approachability to the brand expression.

Product imagery and feature highlights become more expressive but still support the business proposition and product differentiation. Charts and diagrams are constructed modularly and stylistically fit into the graphic system.

Work with the Databricks design team to organize and create a scalable and easy-to-maintain component library with the atomic-design system to ensure the design system is evergreen.
